2013 Hawaii: Walmart Shopping!

One favourite pastime or so called, a “must-do” for me whenever I travel to the States is go shopping in Walmart.
For those who are not sure what Walmart is, Walmart is a supermarket; something like our Giant or Carrefour, without the fresh food sections.

In USA, fresh foods are usually sold in either Farmers’ market, whole food markets or fresh food markets as they called it. Supermarket in the States are often related to packaged/ processed food and also sells clothes and some other stuff.

There are some supermarkets which also includes sales of fresh food, usually that would happen in Chinese supermarkets, or smaller supermarkets.
Walmart has its own reputation without it.

I love shopping in Walmart cause:
1. There are always interesting things to see
2. I can always always find cheap and good clothes there..
3. It opens 24 hours!

Here comes the photo-bombing.. some of the interesting stuff I spotted in Walmart in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Some of the prices may blow you away!! But that’s the way of life there~

Pianatas, anyone?
708g beggin strips dog treats= USD$10.62 plus tax
I so wanted to buy a bag of these dog treats home for my cousin’s doggie Miko…
But her mummy said NO! Cause she’s too overweight… Oh well…
Tam Chiak doggies always nice to play with.. hahaha

Surf boards for Giants???
Can you guess which one is a real surf board???
The left? The right?
BOTH are surf boards!!
Just that the one on the right is call a paddle board, where you literally stand up on that huge board and you paddle on the waves with a paddle stick. You can try google ‘paddle boarding’ or ‘stand-up paddle surfing’ for more information.
No, I didn’t go surfing. It was the number one extreme sport my mum had banned me from.
(Hey! I’m an obedient child, k?)
BB/Pellet Rifles
Honestly, I was tempted to get one of those BB guns. YESH. I did.
I mean, come on, it’s only USD37!!
However, I definitely get it confiscated in Japan or Singapore.
Not worth the trouble.

Spam Single

Now here’s one of the highlights. SPAM.
Spam is one of the most favourite food the locals eat.
In Hawaii, Spam Musubi is a local delicacy. So people, or musubi spam owners buy these by the bulk.
Not in Singles though.

More Spam
Here you go, the bulk Spam!
Chewing gums
Next highlight: Chewing gum!!!!
YES, they come in bulk too, and in many many flavours.
I bought the Root Beer Flavoured ones. They taste pretty good!!
My aunt finds it too sweet.
Herbs in single serve package
How I wish they sell these in Singapore.
All I need to buy is Chicken and all the herbs are even recipe is on that one card!!
How convenient!
I’m more of a occasional cook so I will think twice before buying a bottle of spice or herb, cause I don’t know when I want to use them again. These are awfully handy!!
Oreo Cups
Yes, I know Singapore supermarkets and convenient stores do sell this.
However, check out the price. 7Eleven in Singapore sells this for about SGD$4.
Go figure~
Teddy Graham biscuits
These are my childhood favourite biscuits.
I don’t think you can find these in Singapore anymore. I love these!
I didn’t buy this though. I still gotta leave some space for my Japan stopover after Hawaii.
So, sighz….
Giant packet of cereal
Found this upon chance while walking the aisle.
GIANT. This pack of cereal is almost 2 shelves tall.
While I understand Americans usually stock up their pantry so it’s no big deal to them.
But for someone like me who loves variety, this is wayyyy too much!
Another of my favourite. BAGELS!!
FYI, those you get in Singapore is nothing compared to their American cousins.
For Singapore made bagels, they turn solid rok after you warm them up and left cold.
American bagels DON’T.
I ever tried making them on my own, but the bread still behaves like Singapore bagel.
I ever tried consulting and discussing this issue with my cousin who lives in America, she suspects the yeast was the determining factor.
Oh well, I’ll never know.
I usually will buy like 2 rolls of bagels back to Singapore, (yes, I hand carry them!) But because this round, I’m stopping in Japan for a week next, so I couldn’t.
Well, what’s Hawaii without their famous Hawaiian Host?
Hawaiian Host Chocolates
Yes, they are USD$2.88 a box.
How much is it sold in Singapore??
More Hawaiian Host
I found out that Hawaiian Host doesn’t just come in standard milk chocolate and dark chocolate!
They have Kona Coffee flavour, Caramel flavour and White Chocolate flavour.
I even saw one with rice crisps and toffee flavour!
Only when I am back in Singapore and writing this post then I realised that all these flavours are also featured on their website.
I also spent USD$50 buying birthday cards from Walmart.
Okay, I spent a total of about USD200 at Walmart alone!!
So, here’s my Walmart haul!
Walmart Haul!
OK, Now it’s GIVEAWAY time!!!
This is going to be really bizzare but I do know there are friends of mine who wanted to try it when I bought it. I’m not sure how acceptable this is here locally, but I’m going to do it anyway.
I’m going to give away a pack of root beer float flavour chewing gum!
Unfortunately, I can only make this giveaway “Singapore region only”, cause I’m sure they sell these in places overseas.
I assume everyone is mature enough not to dispose the gum inappropriately after use.
So, How to win?
1. Follow me on Twitter.
2. Follow me on Instagram.
