Pampering session with Joey and Mary Kay

An invitation came from a fellow blogger, Carmen to a workshop hosted by Joey from Style Essential Inc.
Carmen thought it was a good idea to invite me since I knew very little about make-up.

So on one early morning, in a secret place a stone’s throw away from Bugis+, six ladies plus myself; gathered for a pampering session.

All decked out and ready

Joey, our host, introduced to us the range of products she would be using on us that day and got down to the session.

Peach Satin Hands® Satin Smoothie® Hand Scrub
SGD35*

We started with “washing our hands”. The product she used is this Peach smoothie hand scrub which is very nice and fragrant. The scrub comes with little beads and kernels that you can feel that it actually exfoliates your skin.

Can you see which hand did I do the scrub on?

*No photo alterations was done on these above photos.

Yup! It’s the right one.
Although not very obvious, but my right hand is brighter and I could immediately feel the silky soft touch almost immediately! The peach hand scrub have this nice subtle peach smell that really makes it sweet-smelling.

So after washing our hands, we started with the facial regime and masks.
All the products used were from the Botanical Effects range:

I am very careful when it comes to skin care because my skin is very thin and it reacts very quickly if a product has a stronger/concentrated chemical.
However, upon trying this, it does not give my skin any irritation or discomfort; and it was very gentle.
It was then I found out that this range of products has rich antioxidant botanical ingredients such as milk thistle and luo han guo.
The instructions was to blots a few dots around the face before you start to move the product around your face with your middle and fourth finger. And it just give way to some cute and funny photos!!

Then comes the eye mask and face mask treatment.
I’m seriously not a fan of anything that doesn’t smell good. Period.
The eye gel that Joey had applied had cucumbers in it and it really smells.
And I meant the smelly socks and shoes kind.
But two of the ladies in the room felt that it smells like grape!!!

Jowey (sitting down in the picture) was one of the 2 ladies that said the eye gel smells like grape!
Attending to her is Joey (the instructor)’s assistant.
Oh well, our individual’s perception.
More funny pictures of us with our ‘one-eye patch’! 😛

Afterwhich, we were given the face mask to apply.

Welcome, phantom of the opera!!

While we were waiting for our mask to dry, Joey took the chance to award her assistant for her hard work.
After my face mask…
After the mask, the right side of my face is much more brighter!
We voted Hui Zi for the most impressive change on her puffy eyes after using Mary kay products!
She was awarded with a pretty purse!
After we completed our facial regime, Joey share with us some tips on putting on our make-up.
A make-up novice myself, I gave my full attention to her lesson.

As the entire workshop is a hands-on lesson, I too managed to try out make-up myself. And it turns out to be pretty easy really! However, I am still not that confident on putting on eye shadows as I still feel there are too much colours in one place.
It is kind of irony as I paint very well on paper and canvas but hopeless when it is my own face.

Of course, there is a make-up competition as well!
Joey and Joanna are experts in this area! Catch them in action!

Seeing all these gals doing make-up does spur me on to try on make-up in my future events.
For now, I’m sticking with my simple powder and lip balm; well, plus maybe taking on a one eye shadow colour.

As beginners, Joey gave us a more office look colour and when I referred to the catalogue she has gave us, I realised the colour palette she selected was from this look!
The pictures teaching you how to apply eye shadow really helps!
It is also very nice to know that all Mary Kay mineral cosmetics consists of plant extracts and no animal ingredients. It is totally vegetarian-friendly!

For the challenge, Joanna took the win!
